Helen Clark, then Minister of Health, raised Midwives to their feet when she promised independence and support for Direct Entry Midwifery. She was given a standing ovation and made an Honorary Member of the College. Sure to her word, two days later on the 22nd August, the Nurses Amendment bill passed through Parliament and became law...
The rest of this year's work has mostly been dealing with implications of the Amendment Act.
